GEPCO Bill Calculator

To estimate a monthly bill as accurately as possible, the GEPCO bill estimator needs the amount of unit consumption, as well as the Fuel Adjustment (FPA) and Quarterly Adjustment (QTR Ajd) values. If you are uncertain about the FPA and QTR Adjustment values, you can leave them as zero (0) to calculate the bill without these additional charges.

GEPCO Bill Calculation Method

The method used by the GEPCO electricity bill calculator to calculate bills is different for users with single-phase and three-phase connections. The main difference is the amount of units consumed, which is particularly relevant for three-phase connections, which have peak and off-peak hours consumption. Keep in mind that the calculator is specifically designed for domestic consumers only.

Bill Calculation for Single-Phase Users

The GEPCO bill calculator is good at estimating the upcoming values as well as verification of the current bill. It is quite accurate in terms that it is a GEPCO bill calculator with FPA values. To understand the GEPCO bill calculation, you shall first understand the operations behind the basic values

GEPCO Bill Estimator:

  • When single-phase users are forecasting the next bill, the initial step in the calculation process is determining the units consumed. This value can be estimated by subtracting the current meter reading from the previous month’s reading that appears on the bill.
  • Up until August 2022, bills were computed based on the unit rate of the final two applicable rate tiers. However, starting September 2022, the unit rate of the last rate tier will be applied to the total units consumed. For detailed distribution of tariff slabs, you can click here.

GEPCO Bill Verifier:

  • For single-phase users looking to check the accuracy of their current bill, the first step is to verify the number of units consumed. It would be wise to cross-check the value of the consumed units listed on your bill by subtracting the current reading from the previous reading displayed on the bill.
  • To verify the GEPCO bill calculation, you can multiply the number of consumed units by the corresponding unit rate tier. In the past, the unit rates of the final two tiers were utilized, but starting September 2022, the calculation will only consider the rate of the last tier. To view the breakdown of the rate tiers in detail, you may refer to the provided link.
  • To estimate and check the accuracy of your bill, the GEPCO bill calculator needs the Fuel price adjustment and Quarterly price adjustment values.
  • When estimating future bills, if you don’t have the precise Fuel price adjustment and Quarterly price adjustment, it is possible to use the values from the previous month’s bill. See the below image for guidance on where to find these values on the bills.
GEPCO Bill Calculator Single Phase

According to NEPRA regulations, the following unit rates will be in effect for October 2022, based on the number of units consumed.

Number of Units and applicable SlabRate per 1 Unit (KWh)
For Unprotected Consumers
101 to 200 Units18.95
201 to 300 Units22.14
  • The cost of electricity is calculated by multiplying the unit rates by the appropriate unit tiers. Using the values provided in the example, the calculator carries out the following calculation: Units x GOP Tariff = Cost of Electricity You can also calculate and verify your cost of electricity in the same pattern.
  • The financing cost surcharges (F.C.) are calculated based on the number of units consumed, using a fixed rate of 0.43 paisa/unit. The calculator performs the calculation by multiplying the total consumed units by the F.C. Rate i.e. Units x F.C Rate = F.C. Charges
  • Next, the electricity duty (E.D.) is calculated by multiplying the cost of electricity by 0.017, resulting in: Cost of Electricity x 0.017 = Electricity Duty
  • A fixed charge of 35 Rs. is applied for the Television Licence Fee (T.V. Fee), which can be found in the “Govt. charges” section of the bill.
  • The cumulative amount of the cost of electricity, financing cost surcharges, quarterly adjustment, and electricity duty is subject to a General Sales Tax (GST) of 17%. The calculator performs the calculation to determine the accurate value of GST. For reference, it is possible to calculate GST manually using the same method demonstrated in the example above. (Cost of Electricity + F.C. + QTR + E.D) x 17/100 = GST
  • Just like Fuel price adjustment (FPA) is calculated based on electricity consumed in the past, GST is also applied to that amount. The calculator computes the 17% GST on the FPA. For your reference, it is possible to determine this charge manually by multiplying your FPA value by 0.17. FPA x 17/100 = GST on FPA
  • Electricity Duty is also applicable to the Fuel price adjustment, which is determined by multiplying the FPA by a value of .015 in a similar manner. FPA x 1.5/100 = E.D on FPA
  • After performing all the above calculations, the calculator will determine the current bill amount. This total is the sum of all values calculated, excluding the Fuel price adjustment. Cost of Electricity + F.C. Surcharge + Quarterly Adjustment + Electricity Duty + TVL Fee + GST = Current Amount
  • The amount charged from the consumer is the sum of the current amount and all the FPA charges. This amount is referred to as the amount payable within the due date. You can calculate the payable amount by the formula: Current Amount + (FPA + GST on FPA + E.D on FPA )= Amount Payable before Due date
  • Consumers who do not pay before the due date are subject to a late payment surcharge (L.P. Surcharge), which is calculated as 10% of the cost of electricity consumed by GEPCO users. For example, if the cost of electricity is 4553 Rs., the L.P. surcharge will be: Cost of Electricity x 10/100 = Late Payment Surcharge
  • The total amount that must be paid after the due date is determined by adding the late payment surcharge (L.P. Surcharge) to the original amount payable within the due date. Payable amount before due date + L.P. Surcharge = Payable amount after the due date

The mechanism outlined above illustrates how the GEPCO bill calculator operates, allowing you to easily estimate or verify your residential bill. This tool is applicable to both protected and unprotected consumers. The latest tariffs and charges provided by the Government of Pakistan are updated in the tool on a monthly basis. If you wish to access more information on the approved tariff rates from the government, you can continue reading.

Bill Calculation for Three Phase Users

The GEPCO bill calculator can effectively estimate future bills as well as validate current ones. To fully grasp how the GEPCO bill is calculated, it is essential to have a clear understanding of the methodology behind the fundamental values.

GEPCO Bill Estimator:

  • To estimate the upcoming bill for three-phase users, the initial step is determining the consumption during peak and off-peak hours. Your electricity meter will display two sets of readings, one for consumption during off-peak hours and the other for consumption during peak hours. To obtain an accurate estimate, please follow the process outlined below.
  • To estimate the unit consumption for off-peak hours: Subtract the previous month’s off-peak reading from the current off-peak reading of your meter. This will give you an estimate of the unit consumption for the current month up to this point.
  • To estimate the unit consumption for peak hours: Subtract the previous month’s peak reading from the current peak reading on your meter.

  • For three-phase consumers checking the accuracy of their current GEPCO bill, it’s necessary to review the electricity consumption during peak and off-peak hours. The bill will show two sets of readings, the first for off-peak hours, and the second for peak hours. To verify your GEPCO online bill, please follow the process outlined below:
  • The calculator now prompts you to enter the peak and off-peak units. You can find this information in your current bill, the first set of units listed under the “meter reading” section on your invoice represents the off-peak hours and the second set of units represents the peak hours.
  • As seen in the image below, directly above the “Government charges” tab, two rows are visible.
GEPCO Bill Calculation Peak Off-Peak Units
  • The GEPCO bill calculator will then request Fuel Price Adjustment (FPA) and Quarterly price adjustment (QTR ADJ) values, which can be found on the previous month’s bill for estimating the next bill or on the current month’s bill for verifying the current bill. The below picture provides guidance on where to locate FPA and QTR Adjustment values
GEPCO Fuel Adjustment and Quarterly Charges

The tool will now perform calculations based on the tariffs provided by the Government of Pakistan. As of 1st October 2022, the tariffs issued by GOP for residential consumers are outlined below:

GEPCO Tariff Rates by Government of Pakistan (1st October 2022)Rate Per 1 Unit (KWh)
Off-Peak Hour28.07
Peak Hours34.39
  • The tool selects the appropriate peak and off-peak government tariff rates, then multiplies them by the corresponding consumed units to begin the GEPCO bill calculation.
  • The cost of electricity is then calculated by adding the above-calculated amounts.
  • F.C. Surcharge means Financing Cost Charges are decided by the Govt. of Pakistan as .43 Paisa per unit.
  • Electricity Duty is applied to the cost of electricity by a multiple of 1.7%.
  • 35 Rs is the T.V. License Fee (TVL) is the standard fixed fee charged by every consumer. Tool input this constant value on its own.
  • One of the mandatory taxes applied by the Govt. of Pakistan is General Sales Tax (GST) which is 17% of the combined amount of Cost of Electricity, F.C. Surcharge, Quarterly Tariff Adjustment, and Electricity Duty.
  • Since consumers are continuously charged for previous bill adjustments by the name of Fuel price adjustment, then it is being considered that GST is also applied to the Fuel price adjustment of the current bill.
  • Similarly, Electricity duty is also applied to Fuel Price adjustment. Therefore, ED of FPA is also calculated by the GEPCO bill calculator in a similar way.
  • After all the above calculations, the tool then adds up all the values except Fuel adjustment charges to calculate the current bill amount:
Cost of Electricity + F.C. Surcharge + Quarterly Adjustment +
Electricity Duty + TVL Fee + GST = Current Amount
  • The amount which is due on the consumer to be paid before the due date is calculated by adding all the FPA charges to the current amount:
(FPA + GST on FPA + E.D on FPA) + Current Amount = Total Payable bill before Due date.
However, in your bill total, the payable bill amount will be appearing different due to the inclusion of arrears if applicable.
  • Late Payment Surcharge .i.e, L.P. Surcharge, is taken as 10% of the Cost of Electricity consumed by a GEPCO user.
  • The total GEPCO bill calculated, which can be paid after the due date, is measured by adding L.P. Surcharge to the total bill payable before the due date.
Payable Bill + LP Charges = Total Payable bill after Due date.

The calculations shown above are results of simple addition and multiplication functions that you can understand easily. This calculator is built for Residential consumers of GEPCO, so if you are a commercial consumer, then different tariff rates are applicable on your bill.
